San Nicolas Murals: The Walking Map of Aruba's Street Art District (2026)

Over 40 large-scale murals cover San Nicolas, and new ones arrive every year when the Aruba Art Fair brings artists from around the world. You can see the heart of the district in about an hour of easy, flat walking. Here is the route locals would give you.

The walking loop (about 1.2 km, no hills)

Everything centers on the main street and the two or three blocks either side of it. Start anywhere, but this order flows naturally from the bus stop:

The main street murals. Step off the bus and the walls start immediately: birds, portraits, whole building faces turned into canvases
The side-street gallery. Turn off the main road and the density doubles. This is where the festival pieces from different years live side by side
The Greetings from Aruba wall. The giant postcard mural, and the most photographed spot in town. Every letter holds a different piece of island life
The painted corners. Keep your eyes up: electrical boxes, shutters and alley walls carry smaller pieces most visitors walk straight past

Half a block off the main loop, behind and around the fire station block, four giants reward anyone who strays:

Mural etiquette (small town, big kindness)

Most walls belong to homes and small businesses. Photograph freely, but step back from doorways and lower your voice on residential streets
Do not touch or lean on the paint. Sun and salt are hard enough on it
Buy a coffee or a snack while you are there. The town runs on visitors who stop, not visitors who drive through

Best light for photos

Morning, before 10. The town faces the sunrise, the streets are quiet, and the heat has not arrived. Golden hour before sunset is the runner-up. Midday flattens the colors and cooks the photographer.

Walls are the gallery. The stories are the show.
