San Nicolas + Baby Beach: The Perfect Aruba South-Coast Day

By the Aruba Quest team · Updated July 2026 · 6 min read

This is the day plan we actually give our own visiting friends. Aruba's south coast holds two of the island's best experiences ten minutes apart: the Caribbean's boldest street-art town and its calmest turquoise lagoon. Do them in the right order, murals in the cool morning light, beach through the hot afternoon, and you get the island's most complete day for the price of one tank of gas.

The plan at a glance

Why morning in town, afternoon at the beach

Most visitors do it backwards, beach first, town as an afterthought at 2 PM when the streets are baking and half of San Nicolas is closed for lunch. Flip it. San Nicolas mornings are shaded, breezy and alive; Baby Beach afternoons are exactly what a hot afternoon is for. And the murals photograph best before ten, when the low sun hits the painted walls straight on.

Turn the morning walk into a game

You can wander the murals on your own with our free walking map. But the reason this itinerary starts at the Welcome sign: it's also the starting line of The Secrets of San Nicolas, our 60–90 minute walking quest. Two real San Nicolas voices, Rudy & Rosa, guide your group wall to wall while you hunt clues hidden in the actual murals, and the town's biggest secret waits at the end. One price for the whole group, no schedule, plays offline. It fits this plan exactly: start at 8:35, finish with the town's secret in hand before your beach towel is even warm.

The morning, upgraded

Same walk, same murals, but with a story, puzzles and two local voices in your ears.

What to bring

💡 Sunday warning: Charlie's Bar rests on Sundays and some galleries stay shut. The murals, the quest and Baby Beach work every day of the week, but if the coconut shrimp finale matters to you, pick any other day.

If you only have half a day

Cruise-ship stop or a packed schedule? Do the morning block only: park at the church at 9, walk or play until 11, one cold drink on the main street, back in Oranjestad by noon. The beach deserves its own trip, the murals don't need one.
